1What is CAEN Rev. 3
Every company activity has a CAEN code. Since 1 January 2025 a new classification has been used, CAEN Rev. 3, approved by Order of the National Institute of Statistics no. 377/2024. It replaces the old classification, CAEN Rev. 2: some codes have changed, others have been split into several new codes, and some activities have received separate codes.
Companies set up before 2025 have the old codes in their documents. That is why they need to move their activities to the new codes.
2Who needs to update
- SRLs, SAs and other companies set up before 1 January 2025.
- PFAs, sole proprietorships and family businesses registered before 2025.
- Cooperatives and other forms registered with the Trade Register before 2025.
If your company was set up in 2025 or later, it already has CAEN Rev. 3 codes and doesn't need to do anything.
3By when
The deadline is 25 March 2027. It was originally 25 September 2026, but the Government extended it by 6 months at the beginning of October 2026.
Until the deadline, the old and new codes are recognised in parallel. After the deadline, public authorities and institutions will work only with CAEN Rev. 3 codes.
Don't leave the update to the last few days: close to the deadline, a lot of files pile up at the Trade Register.
The deadline passed on 25 March 2027. If you haven't updated yet, we can help you now.
Public authorities and institutions now work only with CAEN Rev. 3 codes. The sooner you update, the easier it is to avoid problems with your next applications, at the bank or in tenders.
4Why it is worth doing it on time
- So that your company's details are correct at the Trade Register, at ANAF and at the bank.
- So you don't get surprises when you file another application with the Trade Register, for example a move of registered office or a change of partners.
- So you don't run into obstacles in tenders, funding applications or permits, where the company's activities are checked.
- So that the activity you actually carry out is covered by the right codes.
5How we do the update
- We look at what you actually doWe start from the activities in the company's documents and from what you actually do. Sometimes one old code corresponds to several new codes and the right one has to be chosen.
- We choose the new codesWe find the right CAEN Rev. 3 codes, including the main activity.
- We prepare the documentsWe draft the resolution or decision, the updated articles of association where needed, and the statement on activities.
- You signAt the office or from home, with an electronic signature or by courier.
- We file the applicationWe file the application with the Trade Register and you receive the documents with the new codes.
If you have other changes to make as well, for example new activities or a move of registered office, we put them in the same file, and our fee stays the same as for a single change.
6What we need from you
- The company's registration certificate
- ID card of the director or of the holder
- What activities you actually carry out and where: at the registered office, at a place of business or at clients' premises
