1I want to register a PFA. What should I know?
A PFA (authorised natural person) lets you work legally on your own account, in your own name. You need no share capital and no partners, and bookkeeping is simple. On the other hand, you are liable for business debts with your personal assets. Read more about the PFA.
- You must be at least 18.
- You can have at most 5 activity classes (CAEN codes).
- You can work alone or with at most 3 employees.
- Some trades require a diploma or certificate.
- You can have a PFA and be employed at the same time.
2The steps, in short
- Choose the activitiesWhat you'll actually do. We turn it into CAEN Rev. 3 codes, at most 5 classes.
- Set the professional addressIt can be your home, with the title deed or rental agreement. We draft the comodat if needed.

- You receive the certificateOnce the Trade Register approves the file, you receive the registration certificate and can start working.
3Documents you need to register a PFA
- ID card
- Title deed or rental agreement for the professional address
- The list of activities, so we can choose the up to 5 CAEN codes
- Diploma or certificate, only if your trade requires a qualification
4Which taxes a PFA pays
In short: 10% income tax on net income, the health contribution (CASS) and, above a certain income, the pension contribution (CAS). For some activities you can pay tax on an income norm, set per county. See the details. Thresholds change almost every year, so we tell you at the consultation exactly what applies to you.
5PFA or SRL?
A PFA suits you if you work alone and want to start quickly with low costs. An SRL is better if you want partners, more staff or to protect your personal assets. Take the “SRL or PFA?” test or read how to open an SRL.
6Common mistakes
- More than 5 CAEN classes: not possible for a PFA. A sole proprietorship allows up to 10.
- Missing the diploma or certificate for trades that require it.
- An address without the owner's consent or with incomplete documents.
- Forgetting the annual single tax return (declarația unică) to ANAF.
